Working Holiday Visa Australia 2020 – Questions and Answers (Part 2)

TO RECAP:What is a Working Holiday visa Australia?

As the name suggests, an Australian Working Holiday visa is a visa that allows you to go to Australia to both work and also holiday and do tourist activities. You can work as much as you like on this visa but you can usually only work for 1 employer for a maximum of 6 months. The visa is valid for 1 year but you can apply for a 2nd and even a 3rd visa to potentially extend you stay to 3 years.

TO RECAP: What countries can get a Working Holiday visa for Australia?

Citizens/passport holders of the following countries can apply for an Australian Working Holiday visa 2020: Belgium, Canada, Republic of Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong (SAR) (including British National Overseas passport holders), Republic of Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan (other than an official or diplomatic passport), and the United Kingdom.

TO RECAP: Is there an age limit for the Working Holiday visa?

Yes, at the time when you apply for the Working Holiday Visa Australia you must be between 18 and 30. You can get a Working Holiday visa over 30 if you are from Canada, France or Ireland – citizens from these countries can apply up to the age of 35. Also, if you are the 30 when you apply but turn 31 before a decision is made, you can still be granted the visa. The same applies to citizens of Canada, the Republic of Ireland or France, who can be 35 but turn 36 before a decision is made.

How much money do you need to show for a Working Holiday visa?

The amount that you usually need to show is about $5,000 AUD for your initial stay, plus the airfare to where you are going after leaving Australia. Salaries and rates of pay in Australia, including the minimum wage, are higher than many other countries, which is a real positive to take advantage of with this visa.

Does Australian Immigration check bank accounts?

The short answer is yes. Australian Immigration (DOHA) will usually request to see your bank statements and sometime your income tax return certificate as well.

Can I extend my Working Holiday visa in Australia?

Yes. Anyone on their first Working Holiday visa can apply for a second Working Holiday visa if they have completed 3 months of specified work within the period of their visa validity. Specified work is work that is undertaken in a specific field or industry AND in a designated regional area of Australia.

Recent changes to the working holiday visa program mean that anyone in their second year of a Working Holiday Visa can apply for an extra 12 month extension if they complete an extra six months of specified work in regional areas of Australia.
